Late Winter Health Tips
February 2021
As this winter is very slowly winding down amidst the pandemic (or, in Metro Detroit, in high gear), it’s more important than ever to be vigilant and keep healthy. Follow these elite tips for health as we make our way into spring.
Get regular, restful sleep. Stick to a routine by establishing a regular bedtime to get at least 8 hours of sleep per night to keep you healthy, healing, and able to concentrate as you go about your day.
Eat a well-balanced diet. Don’t skip breakfast, ear regular meals, and balance them out with protein and plenty of fresh fruits, and veggies.
Exercise. Rain or snow, regular activity is necessary for overall health and to fight infection. The release of stress that comes with exercise helps with overall health and wellness.
Take vitamin D. In Michigan, our winters are some of the longest and darkest in the country. The lack of sunshine contributes to vitamin D deficency, a key vitamin for health and immunity. Be sure to take a vitamin D supplement as recommended by your doctor.
Wash hands and wear your mask. Wash your hands in warm water for at least 20 seconds often, particularly before food. Avoid touching your face, and wear a mask at all times in public.
Drink plenty of water. Hydration supports immunity. Keep a bottle nearby and sip all day, making sure you hit your 8-glass minimum daily.
Avoid large gatherings. Avoid large groups of people and social gatherings with others outside your household to limit the spread of germs and disease.
